LEGIOS purchased ŽOS Nymburk

18. 6. 2011 - LEGIOS purchased ŽOS Nymburk

Prague/Louny/Nymburk July 18, 2011 - LEGIOS, a Czech based important European builder of railway freight wagons and locomotive engines, purchased Železniční opravny a strojírny (Railway Repair and Engineering Works) in Nymburk. Following last year´s start-up of production in a new factory at Horní Slavkov, LEGIOS again significantly expanded its manufacturing capacity as well as the structure of its supply of products and services. Repair of railway engines will continue to be the core activity at Nymburk, but manufacturing of freight wagons and components for rolling stock should also be developed there over time.

“We expect production in ŽOS Nymburk to grow significantly this year already, and new jobs to be created. The plant in Nymburk employs about 150 people today, and their number is going at least to double before the end of this year,” says Radek Rybáček, CEO of LEGIOS group. LEGIOS has changed its business strategy in the last three years and is focusing now on expansion to European countries. Rybáček believes LEGIOS production can stand tough competition not only in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also in countries like Germany, Switzerland, France and Italy; it has also succeeded in Turkey. “Our foreign customers include for example AAE, Ambrogio, Deutsche Bahn, Railion, TOUAX RAIL, or Wascosa,” enumerates Rybáček.

The history of ŽOS Nymburk dates back to 1874, when repair workshops for railway engines, passenger carriages and freight wagons were founded there. The plant was upgraded in the eighties to Eastern Europe´s largest engine repair plant in order to service the entire Comecon. Since 2000, the company has also engaged in the repair of rolling stock of foreign makes.

LEGIOS continues memorable engineering traditions of manufacture and repair of rolling stock, which began at Louny as early as 1872. Today the company is a major European builder of railway engines, freight wagons and spare parts. Its program also includes repair and modernization of rolling stock. Currently, LEGIOS employs some 1,200 coworkers and expects its 2011 revenue to reach about CZK 3 billion.
