LEGIOS to Supply New Freight Cars to Italy
6. 8. 2010 - LEGIOS to Supply New Freight Cars to Italy
LEGIOS has a new contract to supply freight cars to Italy.
Louny, Czech Republic, August 4, 2010. At the end of July, LEGIOS, the Louny based railcar manufacturer, signed a significant new contract with the Italian, Lombardy-based transportation company Ambrogio. In 2010 and 2011, LEGIOS will be supplying 100 new flat-bed railcars for the intermodal handling of containers to their Italian customer. Certified by the Italian railroad authority, the Czech built cars will be registered in Italy. The value of this contract will run to several hundred million Czech crowns.
“For us, a contract with Ambrogio, which is one of Europe’s leading companies in the intermodal transport segment, is a major achievement,” said Radek Rybáček, LEGIOS’s CEO. “These will be their first railcars since World War II that have not been built in Italy. These cars will be coming from our Czech factory in Louny,” Rybáček added. The type of railcar to be delivered under the new contract is a six-axle, hinged container wagon for the hauling of containers and swap bodies designed to run on a 1,435 mm track bed. Although the Italian contract will account for just a fraction of the company’s annual production of new railcars, LEGIOS’s management anticipates that the successful results of this contract will further enhance the company’s chances of succeeding, when bidding on other future rail contracts in Western Europe. LEGIOS already supplies new railcars to customers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well as in Germany, Switzerland and France.
LEGIOS is a railcar manufacturing, service and maintenance company with a history dating back to 1872. The company is based in the Czech city of Louny and, with its 900 employees, it is one of the region’s largest manufacturers.
